Kogi state New record of covid19 news
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has placed all the
communities in Kabba/Bunu council areas on ‘absolute’
lockdown following the positive testing of two persons in
the council area to COVID-19
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control had on Wednesday
stated that two persons from the state, the Chief Imam of
Kabba Land and his son, tested positive to the virus. A
development that further emboldened the
Bello said effective from Tuesday midnight all the communities from the area where the patients reside should
stay indoors permanently for two weeks.
He also said all doctors who have contacts with the
patients be ordered to go into self-isolation.
The governor, however, maintained that the state is still free
from the virus until the centre claims are verified.

Npower news today
Several N-Power beneficiaries have said they have not
received their April stipends, disputing a statement by the
Minister for Humanitarian Affairs, Emergency and Social
Development, Sadiya Farouq.
Farouq had on Saturday announced the payment of April
stipends to N-Power beneficiaries and further hinted at
plans to streamline the programme for better efficiency
upon payment of May stipends.
She also admitted that her ministry encountered issues
with the Government Integrated Financial Management
Information System (GIFMIS) that caused the delay of
payment to the beneficiaries.
The minister’s comments came against the backdrop of
the outcry by the beneficiaries for their April stipends amid
the economic impacts of the restrictions to contain
COVID19 across Nigeria.

Nigerian doctors condemn ‘unfortunate’ situation in Kogi, Cross River Coronavirus
The Nigerian Medical Association
(NMA) has described as ‘unfortunate
and condemnable,’ the continued
obstruction of the National Centre for
Disease Control (NCDC) by the
governments of Kogi and Cross River
State.
“This impedance is despite the lofty
provisions in the NCDC Establishment
Act (2018) which empower the
organization to “prevent, detect,
monitor and control” activities and
programs for the national response
against infectious diseases epidemics
and other public health emergencies;
and also to “lead, develop,
coordinate”, the NMA said in a
Saturday statement signed by its
President, Francis Faduyile.
Governments in both states, which are
the only two yet to confirm any case of
the virus, have been at loggerheads
with the NCDC and federal authorities
for discouraging COVID-19 testing and
not adhering to the national response
strategy.
Authorities in Kogi and Cross Rivers
believe there is a plot to compulsorily
report COVID-19 cases in the states but
medical experts and federal officials
said the low number of test samples
turned in from the states is making it
difficult to ascertain if they are actually
coronavirus-free.
The statement by the NMA followed an
earlier one in which it urged the
federal government to direct through
the Presidential Task Force (PTF) an
investigation into the COVID-19 free
status of Kogi and Cross Rivers.
The doctors said an investigation into
the status and response to the
coronavirus by the two states’
safeguarding Nigeria’s public health,
and to recommend appropriate
remedial intervention if necessary, to
President Muhammadu Buhari.
In Saturday’s release, Mr Faduyile said
the situation requires urgent
intervention by the president.
Despite being surrounded by states
with confirmed cases of the virus, the
government in Kogi has at least once
scuttled efforts by the NCDC to
coordinate COVID-19 testing.
Last Thursday, a delegation comprising
officials of NCDC and the Department of Hospital
Services of the Federal Ministry of Health had to flee
the state for fear of being quarantined by the Kogi
State Government.
The NMA chapter in the North-central state had
expressed concern over the stance of the Kogi
government, warning that the consequences of not
testing people for the COVID-19 may be too
- enormous to deal with.
Gunmen kill three herdsmen, nine cows in Kogi
reported killed in Egume, Dekina local government council
of Kogi State by yet to be identified gunmen.
The Kogi State Chapter of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders
Association, MACB, led by its state chairman, Wakili Yusuf
Damina, disclosed this to newsmen in Lokoja on Sunday.
Speaking on behalf of the association at the press
conference, Assistant Secretary of the association, Mallam
Ademu Abubakar, said there have been renewed onslaught
against Fulani herdsmen and cows in the community. He
said the latest attack was the second series in the last two
months.
According to him, ‘On the 14 of this month, which is on
Thursday, at about 8am some gunmen heavily armed with
guns and other dangerous weapons invaded Fulani
community at Ofanwa Elubi in Egume, opened gun fire on
the Fulani people and killed three persons on the spot
while about nine cows were also killed during the deadly
attack.
“Many people were injured in the attack that lasted for
several minutes. This was another attack on our people
within the last two months.
“The first attack was in March. And this was another
attack on our innocent members who were killed in their
cool blood on 14th May 2020. The repeated killings of our
people/ members in Igala land is becoming unbearable.

“This time around they lunch the attach at our camp, they
starting shooting at them without any offence at all. Those
killed during the attack includes; Tine Idris, Fatu Idris, and
Abdulkareem Saleh.”
Abubakar said the latest attack was promptly reported to
the DPO at Egume Police station. He said the DPO quickly
organised his men and took the corpses to the police
station before taken them to the hospital.”
He also disclosed that few days before the last attack, the
State Commissioner of Police, CP Ede Ayuba visited the
Fulani community where the incident happened and
promised to apprehend the perpetrators that attacked the
community in the previous attacks.
The Organisation, however, appealed to the state
government to rescue them from attack as they fear this
may not be the last they will hear.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relation Officer, Kogi State
Command, William Ayah, when contacted, confirmed that
three persons and nine cows were killed during the attack
on the Fulani community.
He added that, “The Commissioner of Police have
deployed fully armed men to the area to avoid further
attack. The command is already hunting those behind the
attack.”
